Engineer

WHO WE ARE

RedRoc is a start-up indie entertainment studio under the R.O.T.U. World umbrella looking to bring fresh, innovative and exciting intellectual properties to the next-gen console generation.

LOCATION

We’re located in San Francisco, but we’re a distributed family! This means you’ll be working from whatever location makes you most comfortable.

THE ROLE

We’re looking for a talented programmer to join the studio. With guidance from our Art and Design Directors, you’ll be helping us prototype and build our first project. Alongside a small team of fellow engineers.

You’ll be involved in all major parts of the codebase. As needed, your work may also involve contributing to updates, fixes, and other engineering work for our flagship release.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Proficiency in widely used game development frameworks, with a preference toward Unreal or in-house engines

  • Experience of at least one full game production cycle on a shipped game, with the ability to speak to the full scope of the project and you invest love and care into the little details that people may not notice

  • Attention to detail, with a dedication to writing clean, performant code

  • Confidence working closely with artists and on art implementation during development

  • Diligent, self-motivated work ethic: as a distributed team, it’s crucial that you manage your time well, and adjust to guidance and direction

Level Designer

THE ROLE

  • Construct level prototypes and final-in game levels.

  • Suggest creative ideas for game environments.

  • Resolve and iterate on game environments to guarantee great play experience.

  • Adjust game environments to confirm product’s critical and commercial success.

  • Visually narrate story through creative and evocative level design and world art.

  • Draw and create layouts and 3D models.

  • Review lead design and Game play test sessions.

  • Quality tools such as design requirement documents and design guidelines to develop designs.

  • Execute maps within gameplay systems constraints.

  • Create gun game experiences and map flow with visuals, story, performance and scale through iteration and rapid prototyping.

  • Manage scenario maps’ excellence levels by coordinating with Design Director and Lead Game Designer.

  • Coordinate with Art Leads and Art Director to visually create well planned and constructed maps.

  • Execute gameplay missions and scripted events under Lead Level Designer’s guidance and coordinate with systems designers and gameplay programmers.

  • Break down tasks and estimate time to Project Management.
